Helping Out

At our house,
we take chores and hearing conservation very seriously.

A Kid: Week 8

Bradley and I
Nose"ing"
I was just looking through some old pictures and saw this.
One of those funny things that kids do for awhile and then grow out of.
He used to always run up to me, tug on my sleeve and say, "Nose!"
Which of course meant that he wanted some nose to nose love.
I miss that.
Now he just uses me as his personal jungle gym.
And today when I tried asking him for a "nose" - not a chance.
He basically just batted those big blue eyes at me and said, "No Mama."
Then he let out a little man laugh and took off running.
Little stinker.

A Kid: Week 8

You've missed me, right?
I took a jaunt to Idaho.
Brrr.
Met my new brother in law.
Nice.
Remembered why I love flying.
Blah.
Caught a cold.
Yuck.
Spent 2 days with a stuffy head.
Booo!
But, I am on the mend, so I am getting reacquainted with the blog.
Hello Blog.
It's been too long.
Here's my kid picture for the week.
Jack's classy outfit got some serious attention at Target.
Uh-huh, he was turning some heads with his matchless sense of style.
(Which he gets from me, of course.)
But he's a trend-setting kind of guy.
So you might all want to buy your boots, shorts, jackets, and hats soon.
Anybody who's anybody can rock them together.
And have no shame struttin' their stuff with the people.

A Kid: Week 4

Dynamic Duo

I relish this picture.
But honestly I think the reason I do is because I want to savor it.
Very vividly in my mind's eye, instead of seeing innocent little boys
running around in Superman capes,
I can see teenage boys jumping off the roof onto the trampoline,
hitting golf balls through the window,
or shaving the cat.

Sigh.
Gotta love those boys.

A Kid: Week 3

Boy Feet
What is it with boys?
Seriously, they can be so grody.
Remember that song?
Little Boys are made of...
greasy grimy gopher guts,
mutilated monkey meat,
dirty, turdy birdy feet.
By the looks of things, that's not far off.
There's probably some of each of those things right on those very feet.
How about we take a swipe from that foot and see what grows in a petri dish?
My hypothesis is that it will be something
that will likely get up and walk right out of that dish in a day or two.
Live and active cultures, you know.
Kind of like what is in your yogurt.
Mmmmm...

For the record, these are Jack's real live feet.

A Kid: Week 1

I've been thinking a lot lately about what it must be like to be a kid.
NO insurance to pay, meals to prepare, legs to shave, laundry to wash or bills to pay.
Pretty much awesome, if you ask me.
One of my resolutions for the new year is to slow down the chariot
a bit so I don't miss the show.
Who knew every day was so full of fun and magic?
I've still gotta do what I've gotta do,
But do you know what?
The dishes will wait for me.
The laundry won't disappear.
No one will die if the train tracks are scattered on the floor...again.
The bathroom can wait another day.  (cleaning, not going)
The closet isn't really that bad.  (Ok, that one might be a lie)
And dinner will happen.
But my little midgies aren't going to stop and wait for me.

So, until I get tired of it, I've decided that I am going to share my favorite
wild child picture of the week.

And you're going to like it.

And I think you're practically going to feel like you are 6.  Or 4.  Or 2. Or 7 months.
Whatever the case may be.
Maybe there will be a story, maybe there won't.
Woot!  This is going to be fun.

I love this picture.
But I don't love the thought of all the dog hair and slobber.
Ick.
Oh wait, did I just ruin the moment?
Dah, I tend to do that.
Excuse me.
Scroll back up and picture an adorable 6 year old girl laughing til her belly aches
because she's being snuzzled by her favorite overweight pooch.
Priceless.
